Les Mills CXWORX™

CXWORX is a dynamic, results-oriented training program from LES MILLS™, the people who brought us BODYPUMP and BODYVIVE. Challenge yourself to increase core strength, tone abs, butt & legs, and improve posture. Get stronger and leaner as you continually challenge yourself! 30-minute CXWORX sessions work the muscles around your core, providing a vital ingredient for a stronger body. By honing in on the torso and sling muscles that connect your upper body to your lower body, you will tighten your tummy and butt, as well as improve functional strength and assist in injury prevention. CXWORX is challenging but achievable for every level of fitness.  For more information, contact Lori Price, JCC managing director of sports, fitness & aquatics, at 20.487.0967 or CXWORX launch will be held on Sunday, February 22, from 9:30  - 10:00 a.m. in the Group Fitness Studio.  Reservations are required. Please call the front desk at 203.322.7900 no sooner than 48 hours prior to the class to make your reservation. 


What is CXWORX?

CXWORX is the 30-minute Personal –Training – Inspired Core Class that’s been formulated with a carefully structured, scientific approach and unforgiving intensity.  It has been designed to tighten and tone the abs, glutes, back, obliques and “slings” connecting the upper and lower body, improve functional strength and assist in injury prevention like nothing else.  So, CXWORX will get you results where it counts the most. Core training is important not only for cosmetic benefits, six-pack abs, it is also important for functional strength.  Functional movements are movements based on real-world situational biomechanics.  Functional training focuses on building a body capable of doing real-life activities in real-life positions. 


Is CXWORX for everyone?

Core stability training has become an important component of all fitness programs, whether your goals are weight loss, muscle toning, back injury prevention or sports conditioning.  CXWORX provides a solution improving daily activities for the whole population.


Who should not attend CXWORX classes?
Pregnancy – you should not participate in this program if you are in your last trimester of your pregnancy.
Back pain – this is not the program for those who experience acute onsets of lower back pain. These injuries are best managed in clinical settings.
Osteoporosis – Participants who have clinical signs of bone softening, particularly through the spine, are unable to perform some of the Back Extensions and Hovers as these exercises compress the spine.

Who's it for?
BODYVIVE is a great entry-level program for anyone seeking the motivation and benefits of group exercise that delivers results. It's especially suited to active adults in their 40s, 50s and 60s, people of all ages who are new or returning to exercise, and pre-natal and post-natal mothers.


What Do I Need to Bring?
Bring water and a towel. Wear comfortable clothing - a T-shirt and track-pants are fine! Turn up with the desire to get active and have some fun. Bringing a friend is highly recommended!


How fit do I need to be to do BODYVIVE?
First-timers do not need to be fit - just physically active and able to move freely.


How often should people do BODYVIVE?
There is no prescribed frequency. Les Mills suggests three times a week, in conjunction with other physical activities.


What type of music is used and why? 
BODYVIVE is choreographed mostly to popular, mainstream music from the 60s, 70s, 80's, 90's and today! The music is fun familiar. Like all Les Mills programs a new BODYVIVE class is released every three months with new music and new choreography.


Body Composition Testing
Here's a great way to keep on top of your exercise results: have a fitness specialist track your weight, body mass index, body composition, and circumference measurements.

Customized Fitness Profiles
Interested in having a better understanding of your fitness level? At the JCC we offer members and non-members a comprehensive evaluation that includes sub-max aerobic capacity testing, flexibility, body composition, blood pressure, and muscular strength and endurance testing. From the results of these standardized tests, we design a 90-day exercise program that focuses on improving variables of health and well-being. Private Fitness Classes
If you don't see a class that fits your needs, create your own private class. For groups of six or more, these classes can be tailored to your group's schedules, goals and interests. Choose from most disciplines including yoga, Pilates, boot camp, group cycling, sport-specific training, athletic training, and more.

Community Personal Training
We offer non-JCC members our full menu of personal training packages. When training at The J you have full access to fitness, aquatics and locker room facilities before and after each session. Complete three personal training sessions within 30 days and become eligible for a special bonus and preferred pricing when becoming a JCC member. Current JCC members may also be eligible for special discounts or rewards when a non-member personal training referral becomes a member. Contact Membership Services at 203.487.0945 for details.

Small Group Training
Small group training is available for groups of 4 or more who want a personalized workout with a trainer or instructor. Ask for more details at the fitness center. Personal training is available to JCC members only. All sessions must be purchased in advance. Scheduling is arranged directly between trainer and client. 24 hours notice is required for cancellation, otherwise full session will be charged. Training of any kind at the JCC is permitted only by JCC staff trainer.

Small Group Training (SGT), usually 4-10 participants, is rapidly becoming one of the hottest trends in the fitness industry!


Team Circuits with Verity
Get in to shape working in pairs to complete exercises using TRX, sandbags, battle ropes and more! Experience high-intensity, full-body workouts that target the major muscle groups of the upper and lower body. Participants will work to improve cardiovascular stamina, core strength and flexibility.
Spin & Strength with Verity
Want a killer full body workout? Then Spin & Strength Workout is for you! This workout keeps the heart rate high, builds up endurance, strength, and will leave you a sweaty mess.
Water Weights with Dina
This is a strength conditioning class in the water. Strengthen upper body, lower body and core using special water equipment and the safe environment of the water on your body.
Learn to Love Running with Keren
Learn to Love Running is designed for those who need that boost to hit the pavement. Learn the proper running form, breathing techniques and injury prevention-strengthening exercises.
Advanced Runners Club with Keren
This club is designed for any level of runner looking to increase their speed or endurance. Explore topics such as the cause and prevention of shin splints and other running related injuries.

From Couch to Conditioned with Keren
This course, designed for the gym newbie, is an introduction to functional strength and cardio training. It will use a variety of techniques and equipment that will keep your workouts fresh and interesting. Now you can burn calories and build muscle in a safe, low-key and fun environment.
Gutts & Butts with Karen
Concentrate on the abdominals and glutes with specific exercises that target these problem areas! Combine these moves with interval cardio to get toned abs and glutes.
Pilates X with Karen
Combine the principles of Pilates with TRX. This fusion class will concentrate on core, balance and strength.
Cardio Core with Amy
Build your fitness base with this high intensity class where intervals consist of cardio, core, stability and strength moves. Finish up with deep yoga-based stretching. Modifications will be made for the new exerciser, but this class will challenge even the fit participant!
The Best of BOSU with Lauren
This 45 minute class is a combination of cardio, strength, endurance and balance using the BOSU balance trainer.
Barre Bootcamp with Lori
Become a lean, mean ballerina in this fusion class. Strengthen and lengthen at the ballet barre. Use exercise props to enhance the workout.
