NEW! Photo Comic Creation
Grades 3 – 8
Create your own amazing comic strips using digital cameras and Photoshop. You’ll add speech bubbles and text to make your story anything you can imagine. You’ll think up all kinds of amazing adventures in this computer course that teaches you all the basics of photo editing and story building. Equipment provided.

NEW! Photography Workshops
Grades 6 – 8
Try these great one-day workshops to learn the basics of taking great pictures, without committing to a whole semester of classes. Participants will become familiar with framing a shot, lighting, composition, and more. A digital camera is recommended, but an iPad or smart phone is also acceptable equipment.

Fitness Center Certification Course
This class is for all 13-year-olds who would like to use the JCC Fitness Center on their own. Etiquette, proper equipment usage, form, safety, and training guidelines will be covered. After completion of this class, teens will have unlimited access to the Fitness Center. NEW! Capoeira: Brazilian Martial Arts & Dance
Ages 11 – 14
Capoeira combines martial arts, dance, gymnastics and rhythm in a fun game and a great workout. Participants will increase flexibility, strength, agility, coordination, and speed of reaction, while learning fun moves. We will hold a performance at the end of the semester. All the World’s a Stage
Grades 6 – 8
A theatre class open to all experience levels, students will explore the elements of scene, character development and relationship, how to break down a script and incorporate beat and intentions. We will use improvisation as well as script-based activities to develop a greater understanding for the theatre. Students will integrate original stories and concepts in order to collaborate with other students in the class. This class also contains a writing component.

Private & Small Group Swim Lessons

Private lessons, alone or coupled with our group classes, are a great way to accelerate learning. These lessons offer a comfortable setting, so those new to the water can excel. Through an initial skills test, we can assess your ability and plan lessons around your specific needs to help you achieve your personal best. Lessons are 30 minutes and are sold in packages of 5 lessons. And we now offer 10-lesson packages as well. All prices are per person. Vacation Day Program

Grades 6 – 8
Middle School Vacation Day Programs include awesome trips, plus games and activities at the JCC, and often an opportunity to do community service. Nut-free, kosher snacks are provided. Participants supply their own lunches. Drop-ins are welcome if space allows and require an additional $10 fee. To avoid disappointment, register early by calling the JCC welcome desk at 203.322.7900. A+ Tutoring and Test Preparation

For more information or to schedule a free consultation, please call Alec Iogman at 203.569.3284. Tutoring gives children academic confidence and prepares them for standardized testing. Our tutors are certified teachers who will customize a curriculum that will build upon strengths and address weaknesses. Tutoring is available at the JCC or in your home.

JCC Maccabi Experience

The Stamford JCC will be sending a delegation to participate in the 2014 JCC Maccabi Games & ArtsFest. 
We are looking for Jewish athletes ages 13 to 16 (by July 31, 2014) to participate in the following sports 
and competitions:

Ages 16 – 22
SCORE! is a program that provides high school students and young adults with varying social, learning and developmental challenges the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy soccer or basketball in a small, structured environment. The goal of the program is to enable young athletes to work on sportsmanship, and teamwork, and to have some active physical fun! Chad Barrett, who has had experience coaching special needs children and young adults, will lead the instruction, and volunteers of all ages will assist in providing a safe and fun environment for all.

R&R (Recreate & Relate)
Grades 6 – 8
R&R is an active social program for a variety of needs, including, but not exclusive to, ADD/ADHD, social anxiety, communication and learning differences, and those on the spectrum. During the academic year, R&R will meet at the JCC to participate in activities such as cooking together, seeing theater performances, varied sports events, pool parties, volunteering, and much more, which is not only fun but also promotes team building. The social groups provide youths with a structured and safe environment to develop their social skills and build relationships.

Music, Movement, and Yoga
Ages 4 – 11, Parent and child
This practice is fun and interactive! Through meditation, movement, and chants, Mark Covello provides techniques to work on improving concentration, mindfulness, self-control, and relieving anxiety, as well as improving hand-eye coordination and thoughtful breath. Classes are kept small in order to modify and accommodate any individual needs. Mark has experience working with children of varying needs and abilities. Parent and child will learn to align the mind and body!
