Wine, Cheese & Art Exhibit Opening
Join us for a wine and cheese reception and presentation by artist, Siona Benjamin, as she shares what inspires her art, the meaning behind it, and how Judaism plays a role. Siona will also talk about the Jewish community in India and share her experiences growing up there.
Siona Benjamin is a painter originally from Bombay, India, of Bene Israel Jewish descent, now living in the US. Her work reflects her background of being brought up Jewish in predominantly Hindu and Muslim India.
In her paintings she blends the imagery of her past, mosaics inspired by both Indian miniature paintings and Sephardic icons, with pop cultural elements from our times, to create a new vocabulary of her own.
"My painting is my ritual, my celebration, my essence. My characters are real as they act out contemporary situations and dilemmas," says Siona about her work. Not only will Siona be selling her artwork on canvases and silk banners, but also on luxurious silk scarves and yoga mats.
Gallery will be up October 27 – November 25.
