A great introduction to ballet for a young dancer, this class focuses on learning the basic elements of creative movement while incorporating classical ballet shapes, vocabulary, and dance steps, and expanding the potential of each child’s gross motor skills.  The children will get an introduction to ballet terminology, all the while exploring their physical creativity through creative imagery, sing-along songs and classical music, dance props, and short choreographic combinations. Other skills practiced in this class: identifying body parts, musicality, level changes, balancing and movement coordination, shape formation, pathways, leading and following, and creative expression (This is a parent-transitional class. Parents and Guardians are welcome to participate in these classes, and our goal by the end of the school year will be to have all students adjusted to a drop-off activity.)

Convening twice a week in 90-minute sessions, Ballet 6/7 is the year in which students undergo a pointe assessment, and allowance of pointe work at the barre is contingent upon the Lead Ballet Instructor's evaluation of the students' strength and technical proficiency. Progression through this level is determined by the advancement in pointe work and ballet technique, guided by faculty recommendations. For further strengthening and advancement, additional supplementary classes are highly recommended.

In this class children and parents will explore dance movement together while getting an introduction to ballet terminology and preliminary ballet positions and steps. Using creative imagery, sing-along songs and classical music, dance props, and short choreographic combinations, you will watch your toddler transform into an inspired young dancer. Other skills practiced in this class: identifying body parts, musicality, level changes, balancing and movement coordination, shape formation, pathways, leading and following, creative expression. This is where gross-motor skills meet ballet technique! (This class is suggested for movers who are walking).

In Ballet 2, students begin structured practice at the barre, helping to develop their strength and control. Emphasis will be put on proper placement of the legs, feet, and arms, and the practice of “spotting” for turns. Dancers will learn to memorize and execute steps in short repetitive sequences, as they expand their knowledge of ballet technique and terminology.
