Day Camps@The J knows that the quality of staff directly impacts the camp experience. We take great pride in hiring passionatequalified staff. In addition to a leadership team with over 100 years of camp experience, activities are led by knowledgeable professionals and specialists. 

All team members get extensive training before the camp season. Head Counselors are teachers and/or graduate students who supervise both Senior Counselors (college students), who are in charge of the groups, and Junior Counselors (high school students), who assist. Our specialists are professional coaches, players, and teachers who develop and implement exceptional, results-driven programming.

CITs  

Our Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed specifically to assist teens in the transition from camper to staff member over the course of a summer. This is more than just “one more year at camp,” CITs take on real responsibility and have the opportunity to make a positive impact for Day Camps@The J. CITs are valued members of our camp community, aged 14 or 15, embarking on either their freshman or sophomore year of high school.

4-weeks: Member $150 / Community $200
8-weeks: Member $300 / Community $400

Program Details

  • CITs work closely with our CIT Coordinator, and alongside group staff.
  • CITs will participate in training that focuses on high-level concepts such as empathy, effective communication, critical thinking, child care, and work-ethic development in daily breakout sessions.
  • CITs can choose to specialize in particular program areas during afternoon electives. These areas include Sports, Arts, Adventure, Science and Swim.
  • CITs receive formal performance evaluations, giving them concrete and valuable feedback on their experience.
