Students enrolled in Jr Company will attend their weekly Jr Company class on Mondays each week, as well as one additional technique class per week of their choice (included in Jr Company Tuition), either in Hip-Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, or Ballet dance. In addition to the technique class and their Company class, the dancers will also meet for an average additional 1-2 hours of rehearsals per week to learn solos and duets for our upcoming performances, getting personal coaching from our experienced dance staff.

Throughout the year, Jr. Company dancers will have multiple opportunities to showcase their growth and talent beyond the studio. Jr Company performance opportunities include featured roles in our winter production, our dedicated spring Jr Company Showcase, performing in our Spring Recital, and various community events throughout the year. These experiences allow our young artists to gain valuable stage experience, build confidence, and share their passion for dance with a wider audience. Jr Company tuition also includes an annual group outing to see a professional show, deepening their exploration of and connection to the arts.

Through the rhythmic patterns of tap dance and the high-energy performance of jazz dance, your child will learn the two most popular dance styles of the musical theater world. Jazz dance demonstrates long lines of the body, traveling leaps and turns, and body isolation, all while teaching students’ expressive performance. This course will build on the technical exercises learned and challenge students with more dynamic choreography. By introducing students to the history of ballet and modern dance, we will begin to integrate theoretical knowledge with the embodied knowledge we learn through our movement. This course will also place more of an emphasis on student creativity, building a laboratory where students will work through improvisation and student choreography exercises in a safe and constructive environment. As a classical and formal dance discipline, ballet focuses on developing strength, flexibility, precision, and grace in your young dancer. In a fun and supportive atmosphere, the teacher will lead students through a traditional ballet class structure. Class consists of a warm-up – incorporating fundamental ballet stretches, ballet positions, and technique practiced at the barre – and progresses to center work, across the floor exercises, and the basics of jumps, leaps & turns. Dancers also practice choreographed combinations to strengthen their skills in memorizing and remembering sequences and develop their confidence as performers on stage.

Convening twice weekly in 90-minute sessions, Ballet Advanced is designed for dancers with a strong technical foundation and a serious commitment to ballet training. Dancers continue refining advanced technique through increasingly complex combinations, pirouettes, jumps, and focused artistry work. Emphasis is placed on strengthening alignment, flexibility, musicality, and technical precision while developing endurance and performance quality. Progression through this level is determined by continued growth in ballet technique and faculty recommendation. Additional supplementary training is encouraged to support strength, advancement, and overall development.

A great introduction to ballet for a young dancer, this class focuses on learning the basic elements of creative movement while incorporating classical ballet shapes, vocabulary, and dance steps, and expanding the potential of each child’s gross motor skills.  The children will get an introduction to ballet terminology, all the while exploring their physical creativity through creative imagery, sing-along songs and classical music, dance props, and short choreographic combinations. Other skills practiced in this class: identifying body parts, musicality, level changes, balancing and movement coordination, shape formation, pathways, leading and following, and creative expression (This is a parent-transitional class. Parents and Guardians are welcome to participate in these classes, and our goal by the end of the school year will be to have all students adjusted to a drop-off activity.)
